I think Monster could use a new can design. This one feels quite old looking at it now. Anyhow, this is another one of the new drinks in Monster’s Rehab line and the flavour is Tea and Lemonade. The Rehab line as with the Rojo Tea is non-carbonated and is low in calories, only 25. This has a fairly extensive blend of ingredients, it has Milk Thistle, Quercetin, Guarana, Inositol, Glucuronolactone, L-Carnitine, Acai & Goji Berry extract. Plus some Ginseng and Taurine. Of course, it has caffeine as well, 170mg of it. Let’s see how it performs.
Effects: No sugar means no crash for me typically and this is no different. I felt jittery but I did drink it faster than normal and seeing as the Rojo Tea one didn’t leave me feeling quite as jittery as this, I am going to say the reasoning was how fast I drank it. I was awake for hours after I would have been without it though and the jitters passed after about an hour or so.
Taste/Aroma: This drink smells pretty gross. I am glad that it doesn’t smell very strong. Luckily, it doesn’t taste like it smells. The taste, unlike any other as well and unlike the smell as well; just not necessarily in a good way. It isn’t as sweet as the Rojo Tea but there is a certain over-sweetness to it still, it is sweetened with both sucralose and acesulfame potassium. It is my main complaint about it as the sweetness continues throughout the whole drink. Any flavour in this is overpowered by how sweet it is. The aftertaste is always the taste of artificial sweetener. As I had wanted with the Rojo Tea, I wanted thsi to feel refreshing, even more so with this one and it was not. Instead, I wanted some water after this much like the other drinks in this line. But it is not bad overall and if you like drinks very sweet and didn’t like the Rojo Tea option, this will be one you like. It certainly tastes better than the Rojo Tea.
Conclusion: Again, this is a love or hate taste, I imagine this feeling continues through the Rehab line. I like it but it is a little odd in the aftertaste. The effects are also somewhere in the middle, although I would like to say again that there was no crash after the energy wore off nor any jitters during the energy high. Overall, Monster Rehab (Tea + Lemonade) is a slightly above average energy drink; certainly worth a try.
